Revealing The Main Floor Farmhouse-Style Bathroom Makeover

Hey there and welcome to my main floor bathroom reveal! If you’re stopping by from the ORC, thank you for checking out my website and my bathroom project.
It’s a wrap on another bathroom renovation in the house. This time we took on updating the main floor bathroom and giving it a farmhouse-style look. It was a lot simpler than the Ensuite Bathroom that we did 9 months ago, and we did this one completely by ourselves.
Even though the bathroom is a cozy 5’x7′, it feels much larger now. We’re so happy that we went ahead and did this, while we had the extra time at home thanks to the pandemic. And with the One Room Challenge happening too, I was able to stay accountable and finish it within weeks of starting. Now the bathroom fits in with the rest of the home.

Before

Here’s a reminder of where the bathroom started. While the chocolate brown color warmed up the room, it was starting to feel too dark and enclosing. The pops of red no longer fit in with the accent colors used through the rest of the house.
The Reno Process
Trying to renovate this spring was interesting. It wasn’t easy to get the products we wanted. Shipping was guaranteed to be delayed, some plans had to be altered, and we ended up using a lot of materials that we already had on hand to avoid trips to the store.
If we did have to go to a store to pick up something, the task was made longer by all of the necessary precautions being taken. We avoided trips to the store as much as possible and planned carefully for if a hardware store stop was required to continue. Because we had a lot of materials on hand, the prep process was probably the quickest part of the reno.

And there was some project procrastination going on too. After working hard to prep the bathroom, I had no ambition to actually paint the bathroom. I usually really enjoy painting and find it relaxing! I think the lock-down was getting to me. But I managed to push past my paralysis and get to the fun part.
The main feature of the bathroom update was the wainscoting wall (click for my full tutorial). This is the feature wall in the bathroom. It is directly across from the toilet so it’s going to be stared at for periods of time haha. It had to look really good. And wow, did we deliver!

But the costs of panel boards quickly adds up, even for a small room like this. So my husband and I built a faux board and batten wall instead. And it turned out great! We had some flat trim boards on hand already and took them into consideration when we planned out how to tackle our DIY wainscoting wall.

The Finished Bathroom!

Isn’t it amazing what a difference a coat of paint can do? The room is brighter and feels larger with the farmhouse white walls and light accent wall. The ceiling really pops now too.

It’s the decor and details though that brought the farmhouse vibe to life! I used fun watercolor prints of dainty wildflowers that had a vintage-country feel to them. My son loves the purple flowers the most. I love the continuous line art in the center which switches things up and brings a hit of modern art to the bathroom too.
A mason jar soap dispenser is a farmhouse-style staple and really was the starting point for the decor. My little elephant ring holder keeps things fun and light without going too country.
I am so excited that my first DIY wreath, which I recently retired, works so well here! The burlap is sun-faded, and adds to the rustic charm. I can switch out the flowers on the wreath for holidays and seasons too. Even though there are no windows in this small bathroom I had to include nature somehow. The wreath is a great way to add a touch of flowers and the faux greenery brings some life to the room too, no watering required.

This corner by the toilet needed something and my recently restored cabinet fit here perfectly. This use to be my nightstand as a little girl, and once belonged to my great-grandmother. I’m so glad I recovered it and could put it to use. Plus the bathroom can use some extra storage. There’s no linen closet nearby for guest towels.

Thank You For Following Along!
Thank you so much for following along on my bathroom renovation for the One Room Challenge! I enjoyed this mini-makeover at a slower pace, but like in my first ORC Bathroom Reno, the challenge kept me focused on finishing it on time.
