Color Of The Year 2020: Classic Blue & More

Colour of the Year

One of my favourite times of the year is when the color trends are announced. This typically happens over the course of the fall, with Pantone, the biggest player in the color game, announcing their choice in December.

And it’s interesting because every company tends to have their own ideas as to what color trends are, what the overshadowing current events are that will influence trends, and the results can really vary. It’s time to see what’s the forecast from your fav paint brands for the color of the year 2020.

Can’t remember what the color choices for 2019 were? You can relive them in last year’s post.

The choices for Color of the Year 2020 are here. Starting with Pantone's Classic Blue, here are the calm and confident colors for COTY 2020 by the most popular paint and color companies.

Pantone

Classic Blue 19-4052

This deep blue is described by Pantone to be stable and dependable. It’s calm and confident; all traits that Pantone feels we need going into a new era with the current events happening around us.

Benjamin Moore

First Light 2102-70

BM embraced the new decade with its fresh and optimistic color choice. First light is a soft pink (millennial pink anyone?) that pairs well with the gold metallic trend of late. I like this rosy color choice and feel it’ll work well in many homes.

Sherwin Williams

Naval SW 6244

SW was the closest to Pantone’s color of the year 2020 with their navy blue choice. They also described theirs as calm and confident- I’m sensing a theme here. Where they divert is they went for a grounding color choice instead of a brighter and optimistic color. This navy color would add a lot of depth and character to a room. Think of a dreamy bedroom or cozy den space. It also pairs amazingly with gold tones.

Beauti-Tone

Honey I’m Home SC193-3

This one is quite a change from the other color of the year options. It’s warm and spicy and has an entirely different confidence than the others. It stands out amongst the cool tones of the other COTY 2020 choices.

Dulux/ PPG

Chinese Porcelain

This is another dark blue claiming the title of Color of the Year 2020. This one isn’t as dark as naval or as bright as classic blue but falls in the middle for modern blue paint choice if the first two are too vibrant for you. Blue is probably the most liked color of all, looks great in any home, and is a stable color choice from year to year.

Behr

Back To Nature S340-4

Calm, gracious, balanced. Those are the themes of Behrs color choice. Which, while the color choice is different, the desired theme of the color choice for 2020 is the same as Pantones. They focused more on the environmental movements at play as an influence on the color trend, opting for a natural color. Also a good choice for homes.

Cloverdale

Lioness 0864

This bold mustard is very trendy right now in fashion. Like the other colors, they all lean towards mid-century modern characteristics. It’s outspoken amongst its blue comrades, and I am loving its confidence.

What’s your Color Choice for COTY 2020?

Share in the comments what your favourite color choice of these trendy picks are your favorite! Would you have picked something different? Do you think they work well together? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
