Negative Does Not Equal A Positive
Negative energy is such a sap. It drags at you and follows you around. It takes away your motivation, your joy, and your creativity. In the same way that negative energy is a suck, so is a home that does not suit you. When you come home at the end of a long day, instead of relaxing and unwinding, you’ll feel agitated and uneasy in your “home”. This is not good! How can you recharge and be your best self if you can’t even relax at home? You need to bring some positive vibes in your home stat.
Declutter
Decluttering can help (read this list of 20 items you can toss right now). That doesn’t mean you need to toss out everything and start from scratch. There may be some tossing but not everything has to go to the curb. You’ve probably heard of the Konmari Method of tidying up, and there are some great tidbits to take from it. It’s a bit extreme though and it’s not something you need to do. But what’s the takeaway?
Only fill your home with items you love.
And for heaven’s sake, display them! Why hang on to something if you aren’t going to see it so it can remind you of happy thoughts? Why be ashamed of your grandma’s knitted afghan if it fills you with sweet memories? Keep it on your couch and snuggle in with those warm thoughts. See? Already your home is turning around. You are taking charge and making your home yours. Welcome positive energy into your home.
Go BOLD (Or Not)
Quick, what is your favorite color?
Now look around your room. Do you see it anywhere?
Why not??
Seriously, it doesn’t matter if your favorite color is pink, teal, rainbow or black, surround yourself with it! Crank up the good feels with pops of your happy color! Design magazines make it seem like good design has to be neutral, and bland, and if that’s not you, then don’t do it! I want you to smile when you walk through your door! Have a hot pink dining table if it achieves that goal! Screw what others may say! -Unless it’s their home too, then they should also get to weigh in. You may need to settle for hot pink vases and planters in that case.- It will be worth it when all that positive energy starts flooding in.
Add More Plants
Seriously. Adding natural elements instantly adds zen vibes. The plants don’t need to be real, they just need to look real. You don’t need to create a room that you feel guilty over half-dead plants. And if you aren’t afraid of taking care of plants then by all means, go for real! But if your maintenance level is best set for occasionally dusting, that’s just fine. Dusting still too much? That’s fine girl, I got you. Add some close-up pictures of palm leaves or succulents or pineapples if that’s what will transport you to your happy place. You are going for a major energy transformation- do what you think is needed to create those positive vibes.
Grand Entrance
Don’t neglect your entry way. It’s the first thing you see when you get home. Give it the power to uplift your spirits as soon as you crack open the door. Throw a fun area rug onto the floor. You’ll see it when you take your shoes off, throw your bags down, and just in general, step through the door. Let your home welcome you back.
Even Rentals Can Be Homey
I know rentals feel difficult to personalize, but there are ways to work around white walls. Introducing wallpaper. Hear me out!! It’s not your childhood wallpaper. There are non-adhesive peelable, reuseable wallpaper which are great for non-permanent places. Transform a room or two with some fun wallpaper and add some major personality.
Are you allowed to hang pictures? Then use big colorful art! Make a gallery wall or use lots of squares to create a larger image for big impact. Dream of travelling? Hang up a map and pictures of places you will one day visit. Family and friends cheer you up? Add their smiling faces to a section of your home. As long as these things serve you and lift you up. Keep things positive in your home. If you can’t use nails, I have had great success with 3M Command adhesive hooks.

You made a very interesting point when you talked about how negative energy in your home is a sap. I would think that you could bring positive energy into your home by using items that create warmth. Burning different types of candles could be a good way to bring positive energy into your home.

If positive vibes spread in your home then the problems in your home will reduce. If not then the peace of the home will shattered. Anyway great article.
