Retro Vibes

An emerging trend has caught my eye, but it’s nothing new. Instead, it’s another flashback, to a time when society was unsettled, and homes were designed to be comforting. Yes, I’m referring to the 1970’s. And while it’s always a good idea to have a comfortable home, it seems that more and more the trends lean to a soothing vibe.

Keeping to a light and warm tone in materials helps give off the feeling of a warm embrace. It’s light and airy to appease the sense of minimalism, while not making a room look sparse. This material board is well suited for a bathroom or kitchen. A light yet warm wood for the cabinets pairs well with the grey retro-patterned vinyl floor. Vinyl itself is warmer to the touch than it’s counterparts, and easy to clean. Plus the pattern is super fun!

A simple white marble counter top complements the grey in the floor while giving you a clean and clear work space. The light colour keeps the space from feeling heavy. The grey tone is once again reflected in the backsplash tile. But the backsplash is far from boring with this hex pattern! To top if off you just need to paint the walls in a Simple White to keep things fresh and reflective. The gold metal finish creates a nice contrast with the greys and will catch eyes as the faucet colour.

So while the workspace may not be very daring, the patterns used keep the space interesting. Now give yourself a well deserved Hygge hug.

Materials

Vinyl Flooring: Mannington Filigree Pewter

Wood: Goodfellow Urban Series Maple Desert

Backsplash Tile: Ames Matrix Light Denim

Metallic Accent: Brass/Gold

Tip: Pick one product that you love, and base the rest of the materials around that one. Pick out accent colours from your main material.
