Moodboard Monday Inspiration Series

Moodboard Monday: Jewel Tones uses a mix of vivid colors and patterns to add glamour to your room.

Jewel Tones In Your Home

Are you looking for a way to add a dramatic and elegant look to your home? The moodboard Jewel Tones will add a feeling of glam and luxury to a room instantly. It makes for a stunning living room or dining room where crystal lights would be a perfect compliment. Focus on using teals, sapphires, and emeralds for the larger furniture pieces and have the magenta spice things up as an accent chair, ottoman, or throw blanket! Any gold metallics used will also really pop against the cool tones.

Build It Up

There is a lot going on in this moodboard so let me break it down better for you. When it comes right down to it, the major design aspects are the use of neutrals. The vinyl flooring, even though it has this fun metallic pattern, is still neutral. The gray walls, which happen to be Benjamin Moore’s 2019 Color Of The Year, will complement the flooring well. Even the window blinds, which tend to also be a high ticket item, are a mix of white, gray and black, aka neutrals.

It’s the furniture, art, and decor that bring the pop of color! This is done on purpose so that you have a neutral foundation to build upon. It makes it easier to switch out colors if your tastes change later on. The jewel tones are a bit of a trend right now which doesn’t work for everyone. And trends don’t tend to be long term unless you really love it. So if you love then go for it, but don’t jump on board simply because it is trendy.

How To Use This Moodboard

I can easily visualize this moodboard in a glam dining room. The teal fabric becomes luxurious drapery over top of the neutral-striped blinds on the wall of windows. Along the back wall stands a gorgeous buffet painted in emerald green and finished off with gold handles. Around the rectangular cherry-stained table sits the dining chairs upholstered with the bright magenta fabric. A crystal chandelier glimmers above. The table has a fun table runner on it made from the floral fabric which helps the glass candlesticks and white place settings to stand out again the dark table. This room is designed for entertaining. So come in and have fun!

Materials

Magenta Fabrics: Unique Fine Fabrics, Delfini Desire

Tip: If you are unsure if a paint color is too light or dark for a room, think about the room in general. If it has a lot of natural light, your paint color will appear lighter than the sample. If you have limited natural lighting, then the paint color will appear darker than the sample.
