Moodboard Monday: Blue Denim

Moodboard Monday Inspiration Series

Blue Denim

Last week I posted a very similar moodboard, but using blush. The main difference is the accent colour. This is to show you how important colour is in creating the look you want! It’s why a flooring that is in your best friends house can look different in your house. The vibe changes when you decorate it differently.

The strong denim blue brings a sense of cool confidence to this moodboard. It’s dramatic and bold! Run with it! Especially when it’s paired with light and airy neutrals. You can mix different neutrals too, such as these creams and greys, for more interest without competing with the bold blue. Give the blue more power with an interesting fabric and geometric patterns (which are trending by the way).

Do you see the way that the blues in the drapery fabric are picked up in the paint colours? This creates a cohesive colour palette. You can experiment with how much of one colour you want over the other. If you want a guideline to follow try doing 90% neutrals, 10% colour. Or you could split the 10% up between the two blues present (5% denim blue and 5% navy). A solid dark blue sofa would look very sharp against this light flooring. The fun drapery pattern keeps things playful, instead of being too solemn. The cool shimmer of the satin chrome supports the cool tones of the blues as well.

What I am trying to say is don’t be afraid to play with colour! Colour is fun and can be used in so many ways to create different moods. Whether it’s a fun pattern or a bold wall paint, you can create so much personality when you add even 10% colour to a room.
